On November 18, 2011, I had lunch on the Old Town Mall in Winchester at a new place called 147 North, located at 147 North Loudoun Street.

I found that it's in a long, narrow room with tables along the two walls, some high rise, along with a bar in the back along the left wall. There were several patrons seated at the bar, but I elected to take a table.

The barkeep was also my server. I told him that I had been looking for Tippy's Taco House at that location, and he told me that Tippy's lasted only a month and half before closing. He said that 147 North had retained the Tacos and Burrito Wraps from Tippy's menu.

I looked over the menu, which listed Appetizers, Soup & Salads, Vegetarian, Sandwiches, Entrees, and Desserts. It seemed somewhat limited; for example, under sandwiches, a marinated chicken sandwich and a hamburger were the only listings. Under entrees, several kinds of Fajitas and Kabobs were the choices.

I chose the chicken sandwich, which was served on a hamburger roll with lettuce and tomatoes, chips, and a Dr. Pepper. It was good. I didn't have time to finish the chips and drink, and took them with me.

I was the only patron by the time I left before noon. I'll try the place again if they last longer than Tippy's did. It's closed on Sunday.

My friends and I tried this place for the first and last time. We waited 30 minutes for our sandwiches. The food was ok. The server was fine and tried to make up for the wait by giving us a tiny slice of pie to share among 3 people. The excuse for the horrendous wait? Training new cooks. Why would you do that on a Friday night with a few different events going on in Old Town? With so many other choices downtown with better service and quality of food, we won't be returning. — Anonymous Reviewer

They recently hired a real cook and changed their menu to compete with anyone on the mall or downtown Winchester. They have a new Sunday brunch that will amaze the finest diner. — Bryan Fleming

I had breakfast at 147 this morning. It was the first time they had served breakfast and I really hope they continue. It was fantastic. The sausage gravy was made with nice chunks of sausage and the home fries were perfectly seasoned. I understand that this restaurant has a new chef and all I can say is WOW! Everyone ordered something different and all really enjoyed their meals. Great job! — Anonymous Reviewer

We go here frequently because the food is good, the prices are reasonable, and the service is outstanding. They will go out of their way for you. Very highly recommend. — Anonymous Reviewer

Tried 147 North for the first time on Tuesday night. It was really quiet and just one other couple was there eating when we arrived. Service appeared a little slow considering the place was dead. I ordered the chicken burrito and found it lacking in flavor. Not only was it very plain, it just didn't look good...even for a burrito. It's sad that I've had better burritos from Taco Bell (of all places). Nonetheless, I will give props for the nacho appetizer and the very salty french fries that my kids received with their meals were pretty amazing. Our waiter was attentive, which was a big plus considering the slow service. Had it not been for his charm, I would have given this a '2' rating. — Anonymous Reviewer

A group of us go there about once a week for tacos. Although they sometimes mess up the order, the tacos are amazing and they always do what they can to correct the mistake. The chicken and fish tacos are the best in town. A true hidden gem. — Anonymous Reviewer

The service and the quality of the food were very good. The wait staff were friendly and courteous. I came for a mid-afternoon lunch, and had the fettucini alfredo with grilled chicken, broccoli, and sundried tomatoes. The food was substantial and very tasty. This was an enjoyable dining experience. Definitely worth a return visit. — Anonymous Reviewer

they type listed for this restaurant is misleading. It is no longer just a "taco joint". That said, they do have the best fish taco's around. What a change this place has gone through. Someone has worked very hard here to make sure that the disastrous effort the previous owners put forth has been completely erased. The decor, menu, and staff have all been overhauled. As a patron I appreciate that. After having a mediocre experience here last year I gave it another try. I'm glad I did. The carolina bbq is outstanding! The fish tacos are still excellent. There is something for everyone and it is all homemade. The service was delightful. I will definitely be going back and I encourage others to give it a try as well, especially those who have had a bad experience. It seems to be a work in progress and I am anticipating even better things from them in the future. — Anonymous Reviewer

Have been here several times and I'm completely addicted to their yummy fish tacos and queso with chips. My husbands loves their wings and steak fajitas. The beers are always fresh and the mixed drinks are very good as well. Staff is very friendly and more than willing to get you whatever you need. I would highly reccommended this place to anyone who wants some good food and a great time!!! — Anonymous Reviewer
