Saturday Feb 7 2015 stopped and had lunch here. Found the establishment clean and tidy in appearance, staff was friendly and our waitress knew the menu and did check back with us to be sure everything was ok. I ordered the cheeseburger deluxe with fries and cold slaw, it was very good burger was cooked well, fries were great! My husband ordered the Philly Steak & Cheese with fries he loved it great flavor not greasy as some can be. We were both pleased with our visit and will definitely be back.....on and the case in front with the cakes and pies looked great we didn't get any because we ere stuffed oh you do get good size portions....but will try the sweets next trip!!! — Anonymous Reviewer

Food was ok . . . but check your check. They charged me for sausage at breakfast that the menu said was included. The first time this happened I called the owner. He apologized and comped me a breakfast. The second time it happened it was shame on me I should have known better. — Anonymous Reviewer

I am not impressed with this restaurant. I have eaten there twice. The first time I ordered a burger to be well done and it was very pink in the middle. The second time I had a beard hair in my mashed potatoes!!!! Hair nets and clean faces should be standard for cooks in a restaurant! — Anonymous Reviewer

I am surprised by the lousy comments posted. I ate lunch there today "by accident." I was having my car inspected next door and the wait was for an hour, so I thought what the heck I'll kill some time checking out the diner. My waitress (Amber) was super friendly, everyone welcomed me when I came in and they love calling everyone "Hon", "Honey" etc. I thought the place was very clean including the menus (the bathroom looked clean but smelled stale but, hey, I wasn't there for the facilities, right?). I had a grilled cheese on rye with fries and was pleasantly surprised at the amount of cheese. Most diners are stingy on the cheese but not this place. The fries were your normal fries either. They had this nice crispy coating on the outside and unlike most diner-esque places they were actually done and not hard and greasy. It was fun listening to all of them chatter because they seemed to be a pretty close knit team. Anyone who had a bad experience I would encourage to try it again now that they have their "sea legs." If you are persnickety about your Greek fare, you probably shouldn't order it in a diner. Personally, I think diners should stick to diner food and let the specialty restaurants handle the specialty foods (Greek, seafood etc). I know nothing about Greek food but I do know that I would order a steak in a Chinese restaurant. Anyway, this last part is a very loose opinion. The place is great if you like diner food and good natured chatter amongst the locals. — Anonymous Reviewer

First time there was last week for dinner. Had a good bacon cheeseburger, fries, and an extremely small sample of cole slaw. Went there last Sunday for breakfast and had a good Western Omlet, home fries, and a side of bacon. Went there tonight for the Chicken Fingers platter and was let down. For $10 I got four chicken tenders, about two pounds of fries, and a sample of fries. No meal value tonight. — Anonymous Reviewer

On Thursday, July 10, 2014 I had lunch at the Apple Blossom Diner at 1359 Berryville Avenue in Winchester. Located on premises vacated several years ago by Shoney's Restaurant, the Apple Blossom opened on June 28.

The hours at present are 6:00 AM-10:00 PM daily, but may change after their pending Grand Opening. The phone number is 540-545-8500, and carryout service is available.

The Apple Blossom shares a parking lot with Five Guys Famous Burgers and Fries, and has at least one handicapped space. The entrance is through a vestibule at the left end of the building, and presents you with a waiting area with seats to your left and a receptionist-cashier's station at the back wall. To your right of this is a glass display case showing mouth-watering pies and cakes.

One of the changes of the floor plan from Shoney's is a counter further to your right along the back wall, with eight stools. It fronts the kitchen behind it. The other side of the aisle along the counter has a row of booths seating two, against a low partition.

This aisle ends in a now open area where Shoney's had their food bar and buffet offerings, and a number of tables for four are here now. The small room in the back corner has six tables seating four.

The aisle on the other side of the low partition has booths for four on both sides, for a total of eleven. The front of the restaurant next to the parking lot has the sun room featured in Shoney's original layout, with seven tables seating four apiece.

The décor uses a lot of white now; that and good lighting gives the room a pleasant, airy ambience. I heard no background music, and saw no TV screens.

I was seated in one of the small booths across from the counter and given a large, multi-page menu. The main categories included Appetizers, Homemade Soup, Fresh Garden Salads, Side Orders, Sandwiches, Wraps, Triple Decker Sandwiches, Hot Open Sandwiches, Apple Blossom Specialty Sandwiches, and Basket Offerings.

Also, Burger Korner, Fresh Salad Platters, Italian Kitchen, Prime Steaks, Chops and Entrees, Broiled Seafood, Fried Seafood, Athenian Korner, Lighter Delights, Children's Menu, From the Griddle, Eggs, 3-Egg Omelettes,"Egg" Ceptional 3-Egg Omelettes, Bagels, Toast and Muffins, Beverages, Desserts and Treats.

This appeared to be an ambitious menu for a diner operation, but will be worth checking out over several visits. I made my selection this time from the Hot Open Sandwich category, choosing Roast Sirloin of Beef with Gravy and Mashed Potatoes.

First, this was a typical diner dish; also, my wife always chose a hot open roast beef sandwich any time it was on a menu. You might say that I did this in honor of her memory. I had lemonade as my beverage.

My hot sandwich order was actually more appropriate for lunch than dinner and I rate it merely adequate as diner fare goes. I asked for more gravy, because some of the sandwich was dry; also, it wasn't as hot as I would have liked.

I ignored the peas and carrots side dish. I plan to return for more substantial meals, such Mousaka from the Athenian Korner and Eggplant Parmigiana from the Italian Kitchen listings. I may try the Apple Blossom for breakfast because of its convenient location.

I note that four start-ups in Winchester in recent years that called themselves "Diners" didn't last: the Old Town Diner, the Valley Avenue Diner, the Valley Diner, and North Loudoun Diner have all come and gone.

In addition, everyone is still looking forward to the resurrection of the Triangle Diner, and is also wondering what the relocated Amherst Diner will be called.

My husband and I have been in there twice for lunch now and we can't find a thing wrong with anything. Our server was so nice and kept on top of everything. The food was delicious and a lot of it.... We even took our pickiest boy along and he loved it too. Would recommend to anyone. — Anonymous Reviewer

1 is being too generous, if could leave a gag emotion con would say this place rates 4 gags. My sister in law and I went today for lunch (11.July.2014).. She had the Meatloaf and I thought would try open Roast beef.. the mashed potatoes was runny and watery, the gravy thick and greasy tasting, the roast beef was on un toasted white bread, gravy covered plate. The peas were bland, nasty. If Appleblossom Diner wishes to survive this competitive market get out of the 40's. Revamp and make smaller the menu, and hire a better cook. — Anonymous Reviewer

The Apple Blossom Diner is a real diner. By real, I mean they have a large menu with a lot of possibilities and can accommodate many budgets. The restaurant is very clean and bright, the employees are polite and attentive. I was so happy to have a real greek gyro with a greek salad and crispy fresh fries. My husband had the chicken salad special and had a hard time finishing it - it came with a side salad (which was rather large) and fries. The chicken salad was all white meat and very good. I feel they will do well with their location off of 81. I would love to go back and try more entrees and their pies. — Anonymous Reviewer

I went to this restaurant on July 4, I brought with me 6 adults with special needs. The service was terrible. The server made several excuses about why the food wasn't cooked correctly and why we couldn't get what we ordered. The server even over changed my client for her meal and dessert. After calling back and trying to make it right the manager hung up on me. Being open only 8 days doesn't give you a reason to be able to take advantage of a special needs person. This was my worst experience at a restaurant ant certainly the LAST TIME I will be at this one. — Anonymous Reviewer
