Went to Cafe Del Sol frequently once I moved to Winchester. It was really good and close by when it was still new to me. Over the years, it slowly degenerated into a poor excuse for a food establishment. The food is decent but the price is high for what you get. The ambiance inside is cool and reminds me of a martini bar, but some sports was always blasting on the TVs in the corner, which instead gave a sports bar feel. But what earns the 2 stars is the staff. The wait staff is pathetic. Often the wait for a server to even take a drink order is downright absurd. — Anonymous Reviewer

On Sunday, March 15, 2015, my daughter and I had lunch at the Cafe del Sol, 50 Featherbed Lane, in Winchester, Virginia. Hours are Monday-Saturday 11:00 AM-10:00 PM, and Sunday 11:00 AM-9:00 PM.

Takeout and delivery service are available, and the phone number is (540) 535-2275. Its Web page is at delsolcafes.com. Online delivery and takeout orders are accepted. Café del Sol has its own parking lot.

The entrance has a vestibule with an L-shaped padded bench. Inside, a bar on your left has eight stools and a TV screen in a corner. The front of the restaurant has a narrow room with a table and chairs for a private party of 16 or so people.

In the main dining area benches are along the right wall, facing tables with chairs on their other sides; other tables are around the floor. Four booths are along the front wall; other booths are along the back wall, and a cluster of four booths is centrally located. TV screens are in two corners of the room.

The three-fold menu's categories include Appetizers, Salads, Soups, Gourmet Pizzas, Calzone, Panini, Sandwiches, Pastas & Specialties, Wraps, Quesadillas, Sides, Kids Menu, and Desserts. One side of a separate lunch menu offers a Pick 3 Lunch Combo.

Pick No. 1 is half of a Panini, Pick No. 2 is a cup of Soup, and Pick No. 3 is a choice of a Side. This menu's flip side lists Specials, such as Sea Salted Caramel Ice Cream or Jalapeno Lava Cake, along with Entrees.

An 18% gratuity will be added to parties of 8 or more. Our server was Bridgette. From the Pasta & Specialties Menu my daughter chose the Maryland Style Crab Cake with grape tomatoes & fettuccine tossed in creamy seafood sauce, served with ciabatta garlic bread. Her beverage was a Coke.

From the Pick 3 Menu I had a Cuban half-Panini with ham & tender pulled pork, Swiss, dill pickle & mustard on ciabatta; a cup of Chicken Basil Chili, mildly spiced with seasoned ground chicken, basil & kidney beans; and Homemade Potato Chips served with Ranch Dressing. My beverage was a Mr. Pibb.

Initially the background music was not intrusive, but as more patrons arrived it was turned up to the point of being quite noticeable. This Cafe del Sol is the only one in Virginia. Maryland also has only one, but there are three in Pennsylvania.

The food and service were good, and I rate this place as a keeper. I had visited it once before on March 28, 2011. Previously this location housed a Red Hot & Blue BBQ, and featured an almost life-size statue of Elvis Presley.

Rated high because I like this place. Food is good and atmosphere is nice. It is a little pricey, but the food is pretty good and i like the different menu options that this cafe has to offer. Food comes out like a Chef prepared your food and not just a bunch of food slapped together on a plate. Hope you enjoy this place as much as I have. — Todd Webber

I love the food, the service is normally fine , but my last visit after waiting nearly a hour for my food I had to ask to get it to go. As I had to return to work. So I ended up paying 30 dollars between my husband and I to eat out of a box. Yes they had a large group dinning at the same time, But no one bothered to tell me that it would cause me not to get my food in a reasonable amount of time. I will be back, just not sure when. The staff did apologize but explained at the same time that it was because of the large group. I didn't feel I should have to to wait so long. Or at ;east told when I came in that the large party would impose on my time. So like I said I paid full price to eat my meal at work out of a box. So much for a lunch date with my husband. — Anonymous Reviewer

This place is the absolute best. I've been a handful of times. Everything I have ordered has been delicious. Pizza, Panini's, homemade chips. It's not cheap but the freshness of the food makes up for any amount. It's worth it. It was just voted the Best restaurant in Winchester too. Give it a try! — Anonymous Reviewer

We tried this place once. As vegetarians we asked to modify a panini (by simply removing the meat) on the menu and were told no. The server to us that we had to order directly from the menu and that they could not modify dishes. Very poor customer service in my opinion. For the price, I expected to be able to order what I want. We won't be going back. — Anonymous Reviewer

On the occasions that I have eaten here the food has always been fresh and as hoped for. The service on the other hand has been poor and slow. I feel the food makes the service worth dealing with. — Anonymous Reviewer

First time eating here but was thoroughly impressed. Service was spectacular. The amount of food you get for the price is great. It's a very nice atmosphere with great comfort food. We will return ASAP. — Anonymous Reviewer
