On July 8, 2013 I finally managed to have lunch at Jimmy John's Gourmet Sandwiches, a fast food operation that opened on November 19, 2012. Its location at 2033 South Pleasant Valley Road is difficult to find. It's on the west side of Pleasant Valley, one of several businesses lined up at right angles to Staples Office Supplies.
Jimmy John's is open daily from 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM. It's a fast food operation that offers seating, along with carryout and limited delivery. As you enter, a long table across the front of the room to your right has seven high-rise chairs on each side.
In addition to the long table, additional seating is along the left wall with five booths; two high-rise tables with chairs and one regular table with chairs are further back.
Outside, a concrete patio usurps two parking spaces to fit in three metal tables with umbrellas and metal chairs for those who prefer al fresco dining for their fast food.
Beyond the long table is an L-shaped counter with the cashier and ordering station at the apex of the L. After you place your order, you walk back to the end of the long leg of the L to pick up your order, which is processed by a team working behind the counter.
The menu offers a choice of several price ranges of eight-inch subs. Plain Slims, minus veggies and sauce, are $3.75; Sub Sandwiches with garnishment, $4.75; Giant Club Sandwiches with more meat or cheese, are $5.75. The J.J. Gargantuan has five kinds of cold cuts, plus provolone, onions, lettuce, tomato and Italian dressing, for $7.75.
Sides are extra for all, but there are also certain Freebies available with Subs and Clubs. An “Unwich” is a Sub or Club with a wrap instead of bread. The usual fast food soft drink dispensing machine takes care of your thirst.
I ordered the J.J.B.L.T. Sub Sandwich for $4.75, plus a medium Dr. Pepper for $1.59. The sub was merely OK, and I'm not likely to go back while there are Subway Restaurants with better subs operating in the Winchester area. Also, J.J.'s is a noisy place because of the lack of acoustic treatment and the volume level of the music system.
The Men's Restroom has a series of wall cartoons showing the nineteen different techniques patrons supposedly use while visiting this facility. It would be interesting to learn whether the Ladies' Restroom also has such art works on display.
This row of buildings houses two other restaurants: China Wok at 2039 South Pleasant Valley and Sweet Frog Yogurt at 2029. In addition, the larger block of buildings in this shopping center has Cici's Pizza Buffet at 2059 Pleasant Valley. You needn't go hungry after shopping at Staples or Hobby Lobby with four places to choose from.
Fast and efficient. Not up to par with other Jimmy Johns I've been to. JJs used to have a flavor that was unique that set it apart from Subway. Ive tried several sandwiches from this new location and while they're ok, they're just Blah. The bread and the mayo stood out. I'll re-review when I've visited other JJs locations to see if its just this new location that's off or if its a national thing.
