On Wednesday we had our work holiday lunch for 6 of us at the Village Square. Our party was seated in one of the private rooms, which was a really nice touch.

I ordered the organic salad, grilled cheese and red velvet cheese cake. The salad greens, feta cheese and beets were fresh and quite tasty. The grilled cheese had thick cut bacon and avocado - this was a normal grilled cheese, it was truly a gourmet sandwich. Served with thick cut fries, this was a very nice lunch! For dessert, I had the cheese cake. It was set in a red velvet crust, also very delicious!

Our server was on her game and did a great job working our table. Overall I was highly impressed.

Terrible service.

Went in recently on a nice day and no one greeted us so we sat down at a table outside. We asked a server if sitting down outside was OK and he said "fine" and walked away. Waited forever for menus and only got one when my girlfriend grabbed a busboy. Waited forever again for a drink order. My chili (which tasted good) came out first and I asked the server for crackers, he said "I'll see what I can do" and I never saw him again (he couldn't have come back and said sorry we don't have any?). They brought out my girlfriends meal with onion rings (which she hates) when the menu said french fries, they were out of french fries but instead of saying anything about it they just tried to slip it by. Overall the presentation and taste of the food were good, but the servers were all VERY weird guys. It was honestly creepy how they were acting. I think a female server or two might drastically turn this place around.

After reading all the reviews, I couldn't wait to try VSR. We stopped by for lunch yesterday and were underwhelmed. After being seated and what seemed to be a very long wait (considering it wasn't that crowded) the server presented himself and asked if we were ready to order with pen/paper in hand? No one had stopped by to see if we wanted drinks yet? The food was good but nothing amazing. Another long wait for the check. Honestly, there was nothing about our visit would make us want to return for dinner.

The food here is always excellent! Certainly one of the best in Winchester. The service from the snotty waitress the last time we were there brings my review down to 4 stars, but otherwise, this place has always been great.

Whole Crunchy Snapper and Gift Certificates = winning combo!

We had a gift certificate (discount) to use for Village Square that was garnered from wincfood.com’s discount section. First of all, when you spend $8 to save $25 the food is bound to taste that much better. Okay, well maybe not, but the food was delicious.

We started off with the lamb stew, the flavors in this soup were so good. I ordered a cup and it was not enough, I wish I would have gotten a bowl. Next was a Caesar Salad, prepared just the way I like it. The dressing was the perfect blend of seasonings and not too much anchovy. It also had a few capers with shredded parmesan cheese.

Now for the main course, the Whole Crunchy Snapper was snapilicious good! The fish was lightly breaded with what appeared like just flour and seasoning and was deep fried and then drizzled with a sweet chili sauce. The heat of the sauce did not overpower the fish but did offer a nice depth to the dish. The meat came right off the bones and was so tender and buttery good. It was paired with fresh green beans and wild rice. The green beans had a little crunch to them and had a good flavor. The rice had a subtle flavor of coconut that made me want to eat every last grain.

I HIGHLY recommend using the discount section on wincfood AND ordering the snapper!

Great service, great atmosphere, odd food problems, and more!

Went to VS this weekend. I'll start off with bad and bizarre. Bread is only given on request, so we requested it. Unlike 95% of the restaurants in the world, this bread is good, I mean real good, and the butter was at room temperature. That being said for a party of two, they brought us a basket of three pieces of bread, odd. In any case, I think we had 3 baskets of bread, like I said, it was good. When we got our bill, we were charged 2.00 for bread. I don't think I've ever seen a restaurant charge for bread, especially one with $25+ entree's. The funny thing is, if the bread was for sale, 2 bucks would have been a bargain, it just seemed petty and low class.

Unlike the butter, which was very nice at room temp, the oysters at room temp were not. Our frissee salad, was said to have walnut crusted goat cheese, it didn't, just dabs of goat cheese. Our dessert, was supposed to have a sea salt tuille, it didn't. Now, for as poorly the executed as some of the dishes were, the foie gras and fillet were astoundingly good. The bacon used to wrap the fillet was wonderful compliment to the meat. The relish accompanying the foie was great, and the foie, cooked perfectly, was wonderful on our 2.00 basket of bread.

Chef Dan is a real talent and it is clear that his staff loves their creations as much as the Chef. They are committed to local products and Animal Welfare Approved meats which puts them on the "top shelf" to begin with. But being local does not make it good. Chef Daniel Kalber obviously spends lots of time finding the very best of Virginia's produce and meat for their menu. The lamb is wonderful, mild and tender. The lamb sandwich (french dip) is great but it is at dinner that talents of the Chef are illuminated. Staff is courteous and deligent and the setting is second to none. Just a pleasant experience all around with a talented kitchen staff. The place in Winchester for a special meal and evening out on the town.

Villiage Square has a quiet, romantic, quaint atmosphere. The food is exceptional from the beginning to the end. This is the best dinner I have ever had in Winchester. The only suggestion I have is to get nice soap dispensers for the soap. Having such a nice restaurant with the Dollar General soap, it just doesn't make sense. Overall, Village Square has great service, great food, and great atmosphere.

I love this Place! My fav. in Winchester. The live jazz combo on friday nite was amazing. We had the crabcakes and filet mignon and loved every bite. The white wine we had was scrumptious. Just a tip read the bottom of the menu bread is on request. no biggie.

The food here is phenomenal. Probably the best in Winchester. The portions are very decent for the quality, and the prices are not astronomic. My main concern though is the atmosphere. The styling of the restaurant is very cold, and I'd even go as far to say, overly mainly. Its not beautiful, or elegant, but very bold, and sterile. The waiter we had was VERY attentive and very professional, but he reflected the restaurants styling. Cold, and down to business. The food speaks for itself of course, and I do enjoy some fancy eating, but its the equivalent of a 3 star restaurant, trying to be 5 star, when its not going to be able. The food does, just not the rest of the experience.. Overal, still one of the best meals you'll have in Winchester, and I still say it is a must to try.

Had dinner at outdoors table recently with special friends. Cocktails, Food, Service? Excellent. Closest the Northern Shenandoah Valley gets to Champs Elysee.

We ate there last Friday, May 30. We arrived around 6 PM. We decided to dine inside and it wasn't crowded. I would rate the quality of food a 5. The service I rate a 3. They were slow to refill drinks and I had to ask one time. My other disappointment, we were eating the main course and they decided to seat someone right behind us. The restaurant at this point was nearly empty. Those folks talked so loud and why would they seat someone right next to you if there was plenty of other seats? Anyways, I will continue to dine here, but I do hope they improve the service.

The food and the atmosphere were fabulous. The service was terribly disappointing and not up to the standards the restaurant projects, especially considering the cost of the food. We had to ask for a drinks menu and then had to ask again for a wine menu. They took so long serving our dinner that we ran out of time and could not order dessert. I was there last Friday night and it seemed that at a certain time, all of the service staff left the restaurant to go to the bar side and serve and we were simply an after thought and forgotten about. I did enjoy the food, very much and will go back with my fingers crossed for better service.

We had a family gathering for brunch there and the food was amazing. I had the Irish potato soup to start and then moved to the eggs benedict and for dessert had the blue berry pie. It was a great time and the service was good for how busy it was.

One of the best in town. All of the dinners that I have had here have been good and the lounge has a great atmosphere to meet for drinks. This is a must dine in Winchester.

We liked the food, the environment, the people and the time we had. We had traveled a ways to stay at a hotel opening around the corner and decided to try the restaurant. I'm glad that someone working at the hotel suggested the Village Market. I will return to the hotel for the Greek bath and will again eat at the Village Square.

Let's see, lunch there yesterday with the Chamber, dinner there last week and drinks there the week before. There is a reason I like this place and it not because Jeremy is a great bartender. I love to take my clients there for lunch due to their food, service and private rooms. Keep up the good work!

They have some of the best food in town and a great atmosphere. I can not get over how great the bar menu is. I have tried everything on it and highly recommend the pizza. It can be split among many people and still feels like you had a nice meal. If you want to try a new beer I highly recommend the Black Cherry Lambic. It is a Belgium beer and I get it every time. I can't get enough of this place.

The best place to eat downtown. They discount their martini's during happy hour and I always see people I know just hanging out there. Food is very good and they have some of the best service in town.

This is hands-down my favorite upscale restaurant in Winchester. The service is outstanding - very attentive, but never hovering or rushed. And the food is incredible! At our last meal, I ate the most amazing scallops I have ever had. The menu is variable, so you might not find the same entrees that we tried, but we've never eaten anything we didn't like. A good selection of creative cocktails. Ambiance is good, and the music is played at an appropriate level.

I have only been to this restaurant once, but I went on a Sunday late afternoon and they were having a brunch special, I was not at all impressed with the choices for the brunch for the price and the service was very slow. After we ordered, we then waited for 30 minutes only to have the waiter then came to tell us that what we had ordered was no longer available because they were out of it, did we want to order something else - needless to say we said no thank you and left - Only go here if you are not in a hurry, not starving and ready to overpay

This restaurant is by far one of the best places in town. Their bar menu is just as delicious as their sit down menu and all service is friendly. I highly recommend you eat here. It is a great experience.

Of the Winchester restaurants on my list of best restaurants, Village Square easily comes in ranked #1. Best lunches, best dinners, best Sunday brunch. Oh, also, great martinis.

My brother took me here one night when I was up from NC for a horse event in Loudoun. Since he works in Old Town, I met him in Winchester. I was very surprised to see such a place like this in Winchester. Food was top notch, but more interesting was the style and feel of the entire place.

Once upon a time this was a truly outstanding restaurant, you just couldn't go wrong. I think that as time has passed, however, they've become complacent in regards to their menu and their quality. Often you find things soggy, greasy or wilted which is a real disappointment. The menu also is lacking the pizazz that it used to have. I think the service is fine, the setting is fantastic and the prices aren't bad--you can get lunch there for the same amount as getting a sandwich and drink at any of the chain restaurants. It may be true that the portions are smaller, but that just means that they're realistic--everywhere else is loading on WAY too much.

I'm shocked by the good ratings given for Village Square. I have eaten there 3 times and was extremely disappointed each time. The service is horrible! The last time I went it was so bad that I will never return. The portions are small and the prices high. The setting is fantastic therefore I gave it 2 stars instead of 1. I've lived in the area for a few years and haven't heard anything to the contrary. I wish it were better since Winchester needs more upscale dining.

If you are looking for a first-class dining experience in Winchester, Village Square is the only place to go. The waitstaff is first-rate, the wine selection is excellent, and the food has no equal in the area. The outdoor dining is very pleasant and V2 offers creative cocktails to please every palate. Personally, I found that Village Square was a perfect place to unwind and enjoy, and the cost of the meal was absolutely in line with the quality of the overall experience! Try Village Square - you will not be disappointed!!

I am never disappointed at the Village Square. It is fine dining without the attitude to say the least. They have wonderful soups, salads that change frequently and are very different from anywhere else, homemade breads and pastries, great entrees and specials, and delectable desserts and wonderful, smooth coffee made in a coffee press at the time you order it. I love, love, love their brunch for special occasions and even feel welcome to bring my toddler for Mother's Day or Father's day brunch or an early lunch or brunch any time. I highly recommend this restaurant.
