I finally got my boyfriend to take me to Indian. I am so glad we chose Sona, because now he wants to go back. The food and service were amazing. The staff are super friendly and really try to connect with each table. A must!!

We just went here tonight. The food was very good. The staff is friendly and helpful. The executive chef even came out to talk to us and check on each table. We will be back!

great place! just got back from the international festival Sona hosted today behind their restaurant. What an awesome idea! Tasty food from some of Winchester's best restaurants with proceeds to benefit the Evan's Children's home!

Had a wonderful meal here last week, courtesy of a free gift certificate I won from wincfood's facebook giveaway. My husband and I used our gift certificate to celebrate our wedding anniversary and were fully satisfied by our meal. Even a couple days later my husband was still raving about the food. I could eat this food every day!

My wife and I went to Sona for their Wine Dinner April 21 and it was fantastic. Shiv's specialty menu was just as good as his standard menu. Every time I've visited Sona I've been incredibly impressed.
My wife, who is an incredibly picky eater was pleasantly surprised at how much she enjoyed the meal and wine selections that went with it.
My personal favorites of the night were Murgh Pakora and Bhindi Masala. The Keema Matar was incredibly good though the rest of my table found the spices a little difficult to handle.
All and all I give Shiv and Sona a strong 5 star rating, it would be more if the site would let me.

The meals are fantastic. Shiv will make every meal to please the palate of the guest. I have introduced many family members and friends to Indian food through the toughtful guidance of Shiv Kumar - a master in the kitchen and a person who takes interest in every guest at his restaurant.

The food is great!! I've been here twice and have had good service both times. The dinner prices are reasonable for the quality of the food. However, the portion of meat should be a little bit more for the price that you pay. It's mainly sauce with a few chunks of meat. Other than that I love this place.

I was introduced to Indian food when I worked with a group of Indian Doctors in So MD and have since eaten in Indian restaurants in DC and Northern VA - Sona is my favorite - no question. It is authentic, tasty, and the restaurant has a wonderful quaint atmosphere that is beautiful and very welcoming. My husband and I go as often as possible which isn't enough for us!

I used to rave and talk about Sona every time Indian food was mentioned. The people there are so nice as well. But my last experience there a couple of weeks ago was not so great. It took a while for us to get our order taken, and then when we got the food, it really didn't have that "oh my god this is so good" feeling that I used to get with them. I really hope that this was just a not so great time and that they aren't slacking off...

Excellent Indian food and in Winchester no less. The chef seems to always visit our table and makes it a point to make your meal something special. Sona is the place to go when you want something a little different from the standard fair in town.

I love Sona's. Ever since I was diagnosed with wheat and dairy allergies a couple of years ago, I've looked for restaurants where I can find something interesting and tasty to eat. Eureka! Who would have thought an Indian place would be a good choice? Not me--all that ghee and yogurt and naan! I couldn't have been more wrong nor more surprised. The first time I went there, I mentioned my allergies to the server and she brought out the chef to talk with me. He listened carefully and said "no problem--what would you like to eat?" I knew not to ask for bread--duh!, but what about the sauces--don't they all have ghee and yogurt in them? He said, certainly some do, but I'll make you something special. Wow! He made me this lamb dish that was awesome. I wanted to cry right there on the spot. It had been so long since I'd eaten something out that tasted so good. We've been back frequently and I always call before I come so that the chef has fair warning I'm coming. The Chef goes out of his way to make my dining experience special at no extra cost. He even makes me cornbread and has these spicy wheat-free crackers I can eat. Dining at Sona's I don't feel like a problem child with a zillion special requests and requirements--rather I always feel like an honored guest and expected friend. Did I mention the food rocks? It's amazingly good and so many choices!--M

This was our first visit to Sona. The chef introduced himself to us before the meal and then came back to ensure that we were enjoying our meal. The food was absolutely the very best Indian food that I've had the pleasure to taste. The Chicken Vindaloo was fabulous. The chef explained in detail how he prepared the Vindaloo sauce from scratch. The prices are a bit high, but for the service and quality of food there is no doubt that it is well worth the price. Sona is heavenly to experience.

We went here for the lunch buffet. They didn't have it, instead they had a lunch special menu that came with salad, soup, and chai. Holy crap was it good. I have eaten a lot of Indian before, and this place is one of the better ones Ive been to in VA. The inside is adorable and actually very romantic. The salad was basically an italian salad, which was a bit odd, but tasty. The soup was an indian broccoli and potato pureed soup and it was AMAZING!!! Then we tried the chicken saag(with spinach) and the bharta(eggplant). They were both very flavorful and spicy(which we asked for). The Naan was fabulous, though the raita(yougurt sauce) was kind of funny and too acidic. We ordered hot chai teas and they were fabulous, sweet and creamy with lots of spices. The executive chef took our order and checked up on us...a very cool place, def recommend. I can't wait to go back for dinner!

I've eaten in a number of Indian restaurants in both the U.S. and Canada and must say that Sona compares very favorably with the best of them. Prices perhaps a bit high, but the quality of the food and service are top-notch. If you haven't tried it yet, you should.

Tried Sona after being little less than satisfied with the other Indian place up the road... Sona is great! High quality food, unique, prepared well.

We had been to sona twice for the lunch buffet and were very happy with the experience. So we didn't hesitate to go to dinner there. The room was freezing and I wore my coat through dinner and the staff said "I don't know what we can do to make you more comfortable" although turning the heat on wasn't an option. I ordered chai tea but was told it would take some time to prepare - I agreed to the wait. It was never served and never mentioned again. Dinner was expensive and skimpy. My husband's salmon was practically raw and my lamb only had 6 chunks of actual meat in it despite the $15 price tag. To make it worse the food was barely warm and afterwards the table was cleared and we weren't offered dessert or even noticed again until we asked for our bill. We can find much better places to spend $50 for dinner. Thanks

I love Sona. The food is excellent (on par with Indian restaurants in NYC and DC) and prepared with obvious care. The service is attentive (water glasses are always filled and you're often asked if you need more bread, etc.), but relaxed when you need it to be (if nothing looks wrong or if you're enjoying a talk with your dining partner, they won't disturb you). The dining room's atmosphere is beautiful and interesting. They even have service on the patio when the weather is nice. They've had a menu change (for the better--more dishes) since they opened, and prices have increased, but so have portions. Food prices have gone up for everyone because energy costs have increased and American farmers are growing corn for ethanol. Sona is still an excellent value. There's no Indian restaurant at which I'd rather eat. There's no restaurant in Winchester, of any type, which bests Sona for atmosphere, taste, service, and value.

Sona is by far my favorite restaurant in Winchester. When we moved to Winchester in June of 2005 we were very saddened by the food selection here. We moved here from Fairfax and didn't quite realize how much was lacking in great ethnic cuisine (or really any non-chain good cuisine). Sushi is horrid here. Thai was gross. Even the Japanese steak places were such very poor comparisons to Otani and others around Fairfax. I can't say how happy we were to finally find Sona! We started eating there within the first couple of weeks of their opening and haven't stopped yet! Absolutely some of the best Indian food I've had. I love Minerva in Herndon and Banjara in Ashburn, and have to say that Sona is right there with them as far as I am concerned... and cheaper too! I'm afraid folks posting about prices aren't taking a very realistic view. First the prices haven't doubled by a long shot. While they have increased from about $12 average to $16 average for entrees, that is hardly doubled. This is also a lot cheaper than when we eat at One Block West or Village Square or Main Street Bistro in Berryville, and other places I would compare quality too. I can only recommend that you try Sona yourself; if you like Indian food I am sure you won't be disappointed.

Absolutely my favorite restaurant in town! Perfect Indian cuisine. Some have complained about the increase in prices, but the appetizers are now a double portion for serving two. So, the increase in price was reasonable. I don't mind paying a couple of dollars more that I would at another restaurant for a truly well-prepared meal.

Sona used to be one of my favorite places to go in Winchester because it was unique, the food was great, and the prices were reasonable. Unfortunately, I also found on my last visit that all entrees had jumped by about $5 and that even my favorite appetizer had doubled in price. I was so disappointed, and I don't know if I will go back again.

The first few times that I visited Sona were wonderful. They have great food.I have always been pleased with the price of their entrées until my last visit. I opened the menu and couldn’t believe my eyes. Their prices had nearly doubled. I could not find a single entrée under $16. I am not sure why, but the prices have sky rocketed.
