Jaret d’agneau braise
Braised lamb shank served with country style white beans
Not.
Instead of meltingly tender lamb shank braised with white beans: Roasted, sliced, and grilled chewy lamb leg served with navy beans from a can mixed with some lamb juice and lots of rosemary.
Having said that-I have only eaten there once and this is what I ate. And the chocolate mousse was really good.

Overpriced, service bordered on rude and passive aggressive. Tried it on multiple occasions and felt sorry I went there each time. Just because it is an early bird menu doesn't mean that it doesn't cost us a bunch, or that the food and service have to be mediocre.

My husband and I ate dinner at La Nicoise tonight. Truly, this is a crown jewel of Winchester. This restaurant immediately makes you feel like you're at home with the warm, family-oriented environment. And that would be enough for a great review, but the FOOD. Oh, the food. The chef is a master cook and every bite will make you want to come back for more. We had the seared scallops appetizer, Saumon á la Richard, grilled chicken breast, and finished with a slice of cheesecake. Every single moment was out of this world. Don't pass this place by- it will transport you to a better place, a better time, and you won't want to leave.

I can't imagine what I was thinking when we went back to La Nicoise. Still the slightly stale, cold baguettes were doled out two slices at a time, the bits of meat in the beuf Borguingion were as hard as rubber erasers, the salad meager. Don't go!

This is our favorite restaurant in Winchester. My husband and I always come here when we want a delicious meal. I have been here for lunch and dinner, and we even had our rehearsal dinner here last year before our wedding. The owner, Frederic, is extremely accommodating and kind. The inside is clean and charming. The dishes are always very clean and the linens are crisp and freshly pressed. It is by far one of the most unique restaurants I have ever eaten in.
The food is outstanding! Our favorite appetizers are the champignons sauvages and the scallops. For dinner we love the ravioli, beef burgundy, pork tenderloin, and filet mignon. Everything we have tried here is delicious. The food is properly portioned and you always leave feeling satisfied. You can spend less money here than at IJ Canns, where customer service is mediocre, the steak is cooked poorly, and you are packed in like sardines at 6:00 pm on a Friday. We would eat here every day if we could!
I very highly recommend this restaurant to someone who enjoys fine, authentic French food and a charming and intimate environment. I would give it ten stars if I could.

Today I had the pleasure of eating lunch at La Nicoise Cafe. Although I am a Winchester resident and the restaurant has been open for 5 years, this was my first time dining there. I guess I'm one of the many who forget there is more to Downtown Winchester than the walking mall. La Nicoise Cafe is just a few minutes stroll from the center of the walking mall and across the street from the Fire House. It was an absolutely fabulous meal, Frederic is quite charming and is an excellent Chef. We were told everything is prepared "in house". The waitress was very friendly and offered excellent service. I found so many items on the menu I would have liked to try that it was hard to pick.. My friend and I decided to order several differnt things to share so we could taste a variety of Chef' Frederic's culinary talents. We were delighted with everything we tried from the Classic French Onion Soup to the Pate Campagne, on to the Croque Monsieur served with a deliciously fresh mixed salad with the house dressing and lastly 2 scrumptuous desserts of Warm Blackberries Napolean and Warm Rum Bread Pudding (we just couldn't decide and had to get both). It was truly a pleasant surprise dining in this little French Cafe. I look forward to tasting more of Chef Frederic's cooking. Take the walk (or drive) to La Nicoise Cafe, I think you will likely return as I plan to do....

My husband and I recently took advantage of the coupon offer and had dinner at this wonderful restaurant. The service was excellent and the owner was delightful and visited our table several times to check on how we were doing and how we were enjoying our meal. The meal was delicious! The presentation was lovely. We will definitely be returning for another visit soon. The coupon made it so much more affordable for us. Definitely worth a five star rating.

I read all of these reviews and decided to try it again. It had been 3 years since we last had lunch there and obviously it had grown up. WRONG! I am starting to doubt the reviews on this site. The food is decent, yes. If it has been awhile or your first time, you are treated as if what took you so long. No bread until you order, only wine and beer and the chef literally quit during dinner service. No kidding, stormed out and threw his apron behind him. Thank God he came back because his food is pretty good but this place is a 3. Period! And play French music, not ABBA! Too long in business to be like this...mediocre.

What everyone else has said is true. The owner is awesome, and the wait staff as well. My husband and i went there last night for the first time and we don't like a pretentious atmosphere, so we were impressed from the start. This place has the perfect atmosphere- casual, warm, inviting, but it still feels romantic and special. The food was great and reasonable priced. We shared two bottles of wine, the mushroom appetizer, steak frites, and the snapper. All delicious. We wanted to stay for dessert but we were trying to get to a movie. We both can't wait to go back, and that's unusual for my husband because he usually isn't impressed with "fancy" restaurants.

A couple of weeks ago I was lucky to be invited to have lunch at La Nicoise Cafe It was one of the best meals I have ever had. I ordered the Portabella Ravioli with mushroom sauce and it came with a side order of spinach that was out of this world Everything was perfect The staff was warm and friendly Service couldn't have been any better Everybody in our party agreed about the food
Yes it was a bit more money that some of the other restaurants in Winchester But it was worth every penny Can't wait to go back again and try something else off the fanatic menu Wish I could give it more that 5 stars

After reading the reviews of La Nicoise Cafe, my husband and I decided to have dinner there last night. We were not disappointed! Our meals were absolutely divine! My husband ordered the Red Snapper Nicoise style and I ordered the Portabello Ravioli with mushroom sauce. The presentation of both dishes was outstanding and only surpassed by the taste of our entrees.
The chocolate mousse for dessert...heaven! I've read other reviews commenting that the menu is a bit pricey....it is worth every cent to dine here!
Our only little nit was that the dining room lighting could be turned down some to provide more ambiance.

My husband and I ate with friends last night at La Nicoise Cafe. the entree of stuffed founder was the best I had ever eaten. A little high priced but the food was delicious.
Salads were great. The staff was courteous.
I would definitely recommend this restaurant.

Tonight, my husband and I joined friends for a wonderful dinner at La Nicoise. I officially retired today, so this dinner was a particularly special one. Upon entering the restaurant, the owner and his son immediately greeted us and made us feel welcome!
The scallops in an appetizer were perfectly cooked. The salads were great, but what REALLY captured our attention were the orders of crab-stuffed flounder and snapper. The meals were delicious! I ate the flounder and the cream spinach sauce added just the right touch for the fish! I would highly recommend this restaurant.

My boyfriend and I have been wanting to try La Nicoise Cafe for a while and finally got the chance. The restaurant is very quaint but charming. The staff is very welcoming and friendly. We were seated immediately on a Saturday night. I ordered the Salmon with creamy spinach sauce, which was delectable! My boyfriend ordered the roasted duck in apricot sauce, which he truly enjoyed as well. For dessert we both had the chocolate homemade mousse. SO delicious but rich and sinful. Our bill was pricey but they are by no means overpriced for the quality of food you receive. Service was a little slow, I kept waiting for water refills and our check. The place was quite chilly as well. Overall, I would still highly recommend La Nicoise Cafe for it's friendly staff and impeccable food!

Went for the first time this evening, and found La Nicoise to be a delightful experience! I had the red snapper, which was truly excellent, and a glad of homemade lemonade. My husband ordered a (very large) glass of wine, and a pork dish with mustard sauce that he raved about. For dessert, an incredible chocolate mousse. If it was socially acceptable, I would have licked the plates clean. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Truly, this is the best restaurant experience in winchester! The prices are very reasonable for what you are getting. The food is incredible, especially if you order what the owner's mother has made that night. Unbelievable! I work in the fine dining industry, and I found few complaints here. My silverware was marked for every course. The wine seleciton was limited, I was able to find offerings that complemented every course. They made my birthday dinner the most cosy but elegant evening it could be. Especially when Maman came out of the kitchen to sing to us in French!!!

This restaurant is one of Winchester's best kept secrets. It breaks my heart that it's never busy when I am there. I'd love to see their business increase. The food is wonderful. The atmosphere is delightful. The location hurts this great little restaurant, as it is in a drive-by location... lack of parking and on a street that is primarily a fast moving street. I hope that more people eat here. It's worth it.

My husband and I attend regularly and enjoy it each time. The food is great and the owners are kind and charming. We can have a great meal and the restaurant is quiet enough for us to have a conversation during the meal.
We quit going to restaurants we have to shout to each other across the table due to the noise.

I went there last night, and was very impressed! The food was top notch, the prices aren't too high, and the owner makes it a very fun and enjoyable experience. This is probably my top restaurant in Winchester now, and I think I've finally hit them all short of the Dancing Goat.

I have been wanting to try this restaurant for some time now. I have to say, the menus pasted to the window and the tiny display table outside, turned me off originally. However, the food was good and the experience enjoyable. If it were my restaurant, I think I would re-think the posted menus on the windows and lose the table out front. It detracts from the ambience, terribly.

Add us to the list of those happily surprised by this restaurant. Went for the first time on Sat night and had a wonderful experience.
Service was outstanding, perfectly timed, while giving us space to have a very relaxed meal.
The food was great. Good bread and butter, is always a sign of a special place. Duck was cooked perfectly medium rare with nice grilled flavor. My wife's clam and mussel dish was very tasty as well.
Will definatly be returning!

After years of living abroad, spotting La Noicoise Cafe on Braddock Street in Winchester made for a tasty and thoroughly enjoyable 'relaxed!' dining experience. What a great Saturday date my husband and I enjoyed in the restaurant -- sunshine French fare!

This place is fabulous! My mom and I aren't from Winchester but often she travels there for her job. For the past year, whenever she is in town she goes to La Nicoise Cafe. I went with her this past month and I couldn't have been more impressed.
Having lived in Paris for over a year, I know good French food and this is it! You can tell it's freshly made and that they will cater to your needs. My mom is diabetic and wanted more vegetables for a healthier meal and they were so attentive to her needs.
I was shocked by another review that the service was bad. I can't believe that would happen here.
Overall, AMAZING dining experience. Completely surpassed my expectations.

We tried this restaurant several months ago; for something different. As turns out my husband and I loved it. I feel at home. And, as far as "pricey" I think its extremely fair priced for the quality of the food. You can tell it's not pre-made or prepackaged by any means. Check them out whenever you can, you won't regret it!

Have been there twice and rate them as average. Older building and wobbly tables give the place a rustic homey feeling. Went with a large group of co-workers first trip and everyone pretty much enjoyed their food, though as with some smaller establishments, you run into the problem that several things are not available that you may want to order. Wait staff was attentive to all of us. Food was good, thankfully we had an extended 2.5 hour lunch. Second visit was a just for girls lunch with a friend. Was very disappointed this visit. It was not the food that disappointed, but the service. I guess since my friend was in scrubs and I was in office attire, they deemed her to be the one in charge. Needless to say to get attention, I nearly had to stand on my chair and wave my hands in the air. When the staff came to check on our table, their back was usually to me and all inquiries were addressed to her as if she were ordering for the both of us from the moment we were seated. My friend had to summon wait staff to get my drink refilled as they automatically refilled hers but didn't ask me. As I said, it seems like they spoke to me as an after thought. My friend was offended before I could bring it up. I'm from a larger city and enjoy fine dining. I was pleased to know that I didn't have to travel to find cultural dining experiences, however I've decided to stick to larger cities where they are perhaps a little more open minded.

We dine at La Nicoise Cafe often. It's wonderful; one of the best restaurants in Winchester. As for being overpriced, as has been reported by earlier reviewers, I would disagree. While not the cheapest restaurant in town, when you look at the service and QUALITY of food that you receive for your money, it's very fairly priced.

Overpriced with poor service to boot. I had a lamb dish with very fatty, untrimmed lamb. The wine list was very limited and the brownie at the bottom of the dessert was stale.
