I love this place! I have taken numerous people there and they all love it. The pad thai and thai iced tea are my favorite but the red curry and panang curry as well as pad see ew are good too. This was the first restaurant I ever ate Thai food at, and a Thai friend of mine took me there. The staff are truly authentic and provide the most amazing service every time. I truly recommend Thai Winchester on the walking mall downtown.

If you want a truely fantastic dining experience then don't miss out on Winchester Thai in old town Winchester Va. The food is superb, the service is incredible, the atmosphere is wonderful and the food is fresh and beyond compare. I've eaten in 4-5 star restaurants and haven't eaten food this delicious and so reasonably priced.

My friend and I just happened upon your restaurant. We looked in and thought it would be a good place to eat. We were right. Overall, the food was great. However, the spring rolls could use some work. They were not up to speed with what we are used to getting in good Thai restaurants. The staff was extremely friendly and gracious and we felt like we were at home. Great job.

Thai Winchester is a gem!!! Having moved here from Fairfax I was worried I wouldnt be able to get my Thai fix. Luckily there was Thai Winchester!! Their curries do not dissapoint and neither does their Thom Kha Ghai. The actual restaurant is adorable. I love eating there on a warm weekend night outside. The service is quick and VERY friendly. They also deliver which is awesome!

I LOVE Thai Winchester. They have a fantastic atmosphere, the wait staff is very friendly, and the food is great. Careful on the spice levels though. If you don't like it too spicy, stay with American hot. Their Mexican hot is what I am usually used to in Thai hot. Also I lived in DC for the first 25 years of my life and 99 percent of the Thai places there don't hold a candle to Thai winchester. (In fact several times I couldn't eat what they served in DC) I don't know what some people are saying!

We found Thai Winchester on the internet. We were passing thru on a trip from Florida to New York. What a wonderful place. Warm service fair prices, and exceptionally well prepared and presented authentic Thai cooking. We may make this a regular stop on our semi-annual trips. Bravo

This place is ridiculously wonderful. I live in Northern Virginia, which has about 800 billion Thai restaurants, but when I want Thai food, I go visit Winchester. Really, this place is absolutely worth a try (or many tries!!)---it's some of the tastiest Thai food I've ever had. Hit them up for Thai Iced Coffee or Tea, as well, you won't regret it.

One day during holidays time (Dec 2008), we decided to give this place a try and fell in love with the courteous staff and gourmet food. We happen to be vegetarian and there are not a lot of choice here in, but this beat all odds. It is best @ all front of being a successful restaurant [Staff/Decor/Food/Price]. Thanx Michael for opening this restaurant and keeping it Vegetarian Friendly. Prakash

Went here tonight for the first time. Living in Martinsburg and loving the thai place in Martinsburg (wont post their name here) I was looking to try some new thai. Went with my friend and we had the summer rolls which were more Vietnamese tasting than thai but were very fresh and quite good. We also had the dumpling sampler which was also very good. The pad thai was passable at best. Not the best pad thai I've ever had. And the green gang was tasty but I didn't care for the eggplant and other veggies mixed in. For desert we had the egg custard and mango with sweet rice. The mango and sweet rice was some of the best I've ever had. The egg custard..eh..not so much. It's a textural thing for me I guess... Over a 4 out of 5...and I think they use alot of MSG. I am feeling the typical symptoms of MSG overload...

I've now eaten at Thai Winchester dozens of times (that should say something in itself) and have become well acquainted with the menu. There are restaurants in Fairfax whose food I prefer a bit to Thai Winchester, mostly for stylistic (and regional) reasons simply because the food is closer to what I cook at home, but I'm not driving to Fairfax when I have Thai Winchester right here in town. I can really tell that the food at Thai Winchester is the product of a specific cook: it is in no way generic Thai food, which is a good thing. Food with personality is always a plus. The menu is wide ranging and even eclectic, also a plus. Again, not your cookie cutter Thai restaurant. Pricing seems fine for the quality of food and portions are (too)vast. The kitchen is pretty quick at delivering food to the table. The decor is very pleasant and comfortable. The staff are amiable and obliging, if at times a bit absentminded. They're always hustling, so I can totally understand the occasional service lapse. Mostly, they're right on top of service. The menu has its strengths: soups (noodle soups especially) and salads (yum talay and som tom in particular) are very good as are most of the starters. Most curries and stir-fried dishes are solid. The menu also has weaknesses. I'm not a fan of the BBQ chicken (consistently overcooked), fried rice (boring when it should be vibrant and exciting), and drunken noodles (too heavy and also lacking vibrance). Thai Winchester needs to be on your short list of good Winchester restaurants.

I love this place. I live in Hedgesville, WV and have been back 3 times in the last month. I am a huge fan of Thai food, and I can honestly say this ranks as one of the best I've ever had, if not the best. I recently had a party of 14 there for my wife's birthday, and the staff was very accomodating. They even sang Happy Birthday and gave her a free dessert. The food is excellent, I've tried many dishes, and it puts that "Mmmmm" feeling in your mouth. I definitely recommend this place, if you want real Thai food, it's here, it's the best. Also the food comes out quick, you don't have to wait very long. In my experiences I would rate it 6 out of 5 stars if I could. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed. Thank you Thai of Winchester for opening, you make it easy for me to decide where I want to eat dinner when I go out.

I've been to Thai Winchester many times since it has opened. First of all, it has one of the finest atmospheres out of all the Asian restaurants in Winchester. It's meticulously decorated and very clean and inviting. Thai Winchester blows well known and critically acclaimed D.C. Thai restaurants out of the water. Their food is bursting with fresh harmonious flavor. Sure their spring rolls and dumplings are forgettable, but try their Summer rolls or their delicious Shrimp cakes. Yes their soups are always too tepid; but what flavor! The papaya salad is unforgettable. They rated it at one chile but it's the spiciest thing I've had since I've been in Winchester. I will say that I really, really wanted the Thai BBQ chicken to be good. But it let me down. Maybe because it didn't compare to anything else we had on the table that was bursting with flavor, or maybe because it was a little to dry. The drunken noodles were rated with three chilies but it could have fooled me. There wasn't a hint of spice. However, The Pad See Ew is the best I've ever had. My favorite aspect about this place is that I can go and order a cocktail from their extensive list, sit outside in Old Town, and enjoy some of the finest food this city has to offer.

Having eaten at Thai restaurants all over DC, in many cities throughout the US, and in various places in Thailand, itself, I found the food at Thai Winchester Restaurant to be the finest and most authentic of all the available Thai restaurants in Winchester. The thing that impresses me most is the brilliance of the flavors that shine in each dish I have tried. The food at the other local Thai restaurants that I have tried tend to be bland, even cardboard-like. There is no mystery at all. The ingredients taste fresh and well prepared. The sauces that came with the appetizers complimented each one and enhanced the taste. The spices in the entrees were well balanced and if you like a bit more kick (like I do) just ask for the spice tray. After dinner, the server suggested coconut ice cream which apparently they make right there at the restaurant. It was delicious and cooled the palate nicely. Thai Winchester Restaurant is THE place to go for Thai food in Winchester!

Well I thought my wife and I would try the Thai of Winchester restaurant since reading the reviews. First off I am not impressed and in fact down right discussed about the place. Not sure where these other people are from but we moved here from the DC area and this place doesn’t even come close. So what discussed me was the fact that I found a long black hair in my entrée. That was it! We’ve decided not to say anything and just not come back. So to all you Thai of Winchester lovers, I hope you like the mystery food. And I have to say that I believe this place is below average.

I heard there was a second Thai restaurant in town and decided to try them via delivery. Talk about fast service! He told me it that my order would be right out. I thought that meant 45min to an hour. My order was here in under 20 min! Everything was hot and fresh and presented and garnished beautifully. I ordered an Appetizer Sampler which was good. They even vented the box so that the food didn't get soggy. Ample amounts of 4 sauces were packaged individually. I especially thought the peanut sauce for the satay was tasty compared to some others I've tried. The calamari was a little bland but enjoyable with the sauces. The Thai Barbeque chicken was great with the Papaya Salad which had a nice little kick. The chicken was a little on the dry side but nicely flavored. Decided to try the Mango Sticky Rice on recommendation of Michael and I didn't regret it. The coconut milk was packaged separately on the side and the Mango slices were fanned out very artistically. I'll have to dine in and try a few more dishes, but I'm impressed so far. Nice to know that I don't have to go home (Chicago) or to the DC area to have good Thai.

Good Thai food anywhere in this area is a treat. The place was packed between 6:30 and 7:30 but our order arrived timely and was worth the wait. Portions were generous and garnished nicely. Prices are much more competitive than other Thai places we've been. Recommended to food lovers. We will go back.

My husband and I went right after it opened and were prepared to be disappointed (as we usually are by Winchester restaurants). What a pleasant surprise it turned out to be! The atmosphere was attractive and well thought-out. The wait staff was very polite and attentive without "hovering". The food was excellent, with very distinct and different flavors in each dish. The only drawback was that the music over the intercom was a little loud for my liking (although it was not unpleasant). We will definitely come back! I hope this place does a booming business...it would be a shame to see a gem like this get overlooked because of the super-chain restaurants Winchester has been adding. Treat yourself! Take a trip to Thai Winchester!

THE ULTIMATE REVIEW OF Thai of Winchester! I would like to start off by saying that I have been to about 20 to 40 restaurants in my lifetime. I am from the DC area and have been to Thai restaurants ranging from 6 dollars a dish to 20 dollars a dish. The experience at family owned, Thai of Winchester is surprisingly very reminiscent of my favorite Thai restaurant at the exclusive Bangkok Bistro located in the heart of Georgetown in Washington DC. This review is probably too long to bother reading but I thought it deserved credit as I have been dying for some authentic Thai food since I moved to Winchester. I have so far visited the restaurant 5 times and have ordered the following dishes: #41 Kra Pow Tofu, #42 Pad Phed Pha Chicken, #50 Kra Pow Gai Sub, #71 Pad Thai Beef, #72 Pad See Ew Beef, and #74 Drunken Noodles Beef. Kra Pow is a Thai standard consisting of meat(chicken, beef or shrimp), bell peppers in a sweet basil garlic sauce. It is then topped with crisp fried basil flavor giving it the necessary explosion of basil flavor. The Pad See Ew noodles were also prepared to standard. It is usually slightly sweeter but the flavor is there and I was completely satisfied. The pad See Ew and Pad Thai at Sucilee are a joke compared to Thai of Winchester. The Pad Phed Pha is something I have never tried before. With the use of kaffir (lime tree leaves) and baby peppercorns (a common ingredient in Thai food) it brings a spicy lemony taste to the pallet. I enjoyed the uniqueness of the dish and was happy to taste something I had never tasted before. The food here is light on the stomach and you feel great after you leave. You can barely see any oil at the bottom of your dish which is also a plus. I am very eager to try the Panang curry and see how it compares to Bangkok Bistro. The crispy whole flounder with chili garlic and basil sauce is another one of my favorites and I cannot wait to try it here. (Sidenote for all you iced tea/sweet tea lovers…try a Thai Iced Tea) During lunch time they add in an extra perk. Before you receive your appetizer you are served a small complimentary salad with a touch of asian essence. I haven’t put my finger on it yet but the dressing is a homemade sweet white cream sauce which may or may not have a light garlic flavor to it. I’m not sure if this is a permanent feature of the lunch menu but it adds a nice touch, and I hope it continues. The menu at Thai of Winchester is far more authentic than Sucilee’s. You can match almost every menu item at Thai Winchester with any Thai restaurant menu in DC. You won’t find any Sucilee type menu items such as “Thai and American Broccoli” at Thai of Winchester. During my last visit at Sucilee (and I do mean LAST) I ordered “Beef with Kaffir leaves” which is really called “Pad Pik Khing”. I however was severely disappointed as it tasted exactly like “Beef with Basil”. The Pad Pik Khing at Thai of Winchester is exactly what it is supposed to be (string beans and kaffir leaves with your choice of meat in a red curry paste sauce). The quality of the food is outstanding. I recently spoke to one of the co-owners and discovered something very interesting. I had asked her if she had ever been to Bangkok Bistro or had any affiliation with the restaurant (due to similarities I had noticed in presentation and quality). It turns out that the chef previously worked at Bangkok Bistro in Georgetown DC for a number of years. I almost hit the ceiling when I heard this. Service at the restaurant is superb. The waitresses are very kind and observant. On my third visit I stopped in to place a take-out order. The hostess welcomed me to the bar and instantly gave me a glass of water as I waited. I also have a thing about never running out of water when I’m eating dinner. At no time during my 2 dine in visits have I run out of water thus far. The food arrived quite promptly piping hot. The waitress was also very aware of my rice levels and would ask if I needed more. This sort of treatment is never seen at Sucilee. It takes forever to get your order and I’ve sat starring at my empty water glass several times. The portions given at Thai of Winchester are amazing. Whether you dine in or out you will be very happy with what you get. At Sucilee you never know how much they are going to give you. I however was disappointed with the size of the appetizers. I would advise against the summer rolls. Although it says 6 pieces it is actually one rice wrap roll cut into 6 sushi sized pieces. A trip to the Asian market with 5 dollars could easily make you a lot more homemade rolls. However I have experienced this small appetizer phenomenon at other Thai restaurants so I don’t hold it against them. I have taken a look at the appetizer samplers and they look a little better for your buck. However I advise to just invest your money on an extra dish and save the leftovers for a delicious midnight snack. The price of the beef, chicken, pork and seafood dishes are very reasonable. The prices of each dish are generally 2 dollars cheaper for lunch which is a plus. However, I was a little surprised to see that the tofu dishes cost the same as the beef or chicken dishes. Tofu dishes are generally a dollar or two cheaper at most Thai restaurants. However they are very vegetarian friendly and their tofu is wonderfully fried so it is worth the price. The ambience of the restaurant is quite reminiscent of the various big name Thai restaurants (without the crazy cool lighting). Thai Winchester is the first restaurant I have been to in Winchester that makes me feel like I am back home in Bethesda Maryland enjoying a delicious meal. They play authentic Thai music that adds charm to the Asian themed walls. The walls could use a little more decoration but they are still pleasing to the eye. The seating is great with a number of booths and tables. The bar at Thai Winchester is the nicest bar I’ve seen in Winchester. They are stocked with anything you need from top shelf Belvedere liquor to Red Bull and beer. I made a visit on a Saturday night at around 8 o’clock and it was packed with people having a good time and running into old friends. This is a great 2 star restaurant and I will continue to go to Thai Winchester on a weekly basis for the remainder of my stay in the city. I hope this review helps you on your first or next visit to Thai of Winchester.

After reading some great reviews here, we decided to try Thai Winchester for lunch. First of all, I love the location - and the atmosphere inside (as one reviewer mentioned) is not only authentic, but very pleasant, comfortable and clean. We tried chicken satay as an appetizer, and it was great - flavorful, with delicious dipping sauces that really complemented the dish. On the suggestion of our server, we tried pad thai and thai garden. Both were excellent, full of subtle flavors that let each ingredient in the dish really shine. Many Thai restaurants make the mistake of overusing spices and intense flavors that overwhelm - not Thai Winchester...their dishes seem to embody the fact that subtle, complex flavors are best. For dessert, we had the custard and were again very pleased. It was true comfort food - warm and mildly sweet - and perfectly topped off our meal without making us feel stuffed. What truly added to the experience for us was talking to a server and learning that the restaurant is totally family owned and operated. Very few restaurants have that unique charm anymore...We will definitely return to Thai Winchester - hopefully very soon! :)

Finally! An excellent Thai meal in Winchester. After trying the other local Thai/Sushi establishment a couple times we had given up and made the trek back to Northern Virginia whenever we had a hankering for Thai. NO MORE! Now a quick trip to the lovely Winchester Old Town Walking Mall and sumptuous fair is spread before us!

My favorite Thai restaurant previously was Sakoontra in Fairfax. Thai Winchester easily compares and perhaps surpasses. We'll give them a couple more tries before I proclaim that, but our first experience was absolutely great. So you can see what I'm comparing to, my other favorite Thai restaurants in NoVA are: Burapa Thai in Ashburn Village, Thai Palace in Chantilly, Para Thai in Falls Church, and Thai Pilin in Tysons Corner. I like Thai... I like good Thai. Thai Winchester is good Thai!

My friend (who actually is from Thailand and who comes to school) and I went here five days after it opened on a Wed. First of all the place was beautiful. I am not too familar with Thai culture, but my friend said that the decor reminded her of home. She was even familar with the beautiful music that was playing. Secondly, the staff was so nice. I believe all of them from Thailand (my friend actually talked to them in Thai which was cool. It showed that they were still close to their culture.) They were very generous, nice, and they attentive. Like the previous person said,They did ask about the taste of the food, but it was not annoying (in a way I guess they were getting a little feedback since they'd just opened.) Third of all, the food was wonderful. I have never had Thai food before, but I can honestly say that this was the best Asian food that I have had. My friend and I shared a 3-course meal and even she admitted that it tasted close to what she had at home (when having food from another country, it's hard getting it to taste the same, so that was a compliment). The prices were reasonable. Try this resturant. Even if you have never had Thai food. If have any other sort of Asian meal, then having a meal here is worth trying. I loved it and my Thai friend gave it 5 thumbs too! I hopefully plan on making this at least a biweekly meal...

This is the best Thai food I have had in Virginia, ever. My friend and I had dinner on Saturday night, during the second day Thai Winchester was open for business. The service was excellent and the food was even better. Too many Thai restaurants use excessive oils to cook the food. The food at Thai Winchester is clean and ready for as much, or as little, Thai spices as you want on your food. If you like Thai food specifically, or good food in general, you have to try this place.

This place is brand new and it was REALLY good. We had the steamed dumplings and crispy spring rolls to start. Then I had the Lemongrass soup with shrimp which was very nice, but I thought it could have been a bit spicier. My boyfriend had the roasted lamb noodle soup which had an AMAZING broth! It was the best soup he has ever had. Then we had the homemade mango and sticky rice with was divine. The service was awesome. They were extremely friendly and welcoming. They refilled our water and hot tea many times and asked about all the food, but in a graceful, not annoying way. The decor was very beautiful. It had a stocked bar too. The prices weren't bad and they have a lunch special and also cheaper prices at lunch for entrees. The food seemed very authentic with interesting touches like a dumpling sampler, and vietnamese summer rolls. This place is a one of kind in winchester. There is no sushi, go to Sucilees for that. But the thai food here is MUCH better than that at Sucilees. I am from near dc and consider myself a connoisseur of Thai food. This place is unique and authentic and is excellent for winchester Thai, and also could compete with DC thai restuarants. Definately check this place out!
