Dine at Donatos once a week food is amazing best Italian food I've ever had here ! We have a favorite waitress when we go in there we have got to know her she talks to us and makes us feel welcome. I'm pretty sure her name is Alis she said but she is a good waitress she said she was the daughter sweet girl. The owner is very nice we love "only for you " all around Donatos is great never been disappointed

Walked in Donato's at 7pm to place a take out order, said "hello" to a waitress - received no reply. Stood at the waitress area for 5 minutes - no server asked if I needed help. Walked to a table and sat down - 10 minutes later a server came over and said "Do you want to place a to-go-order?" Finally after 20 minutes I had my order placed for a large cheese pizza and garlic knots. Not a great first impression definately. About 20 minutes later the server told me my order was ready, I paid for it and off I went.......once I arrived home found that I didnt get an order of garlic knots but an antipasta salad the pizza was burnt on the bottom and the sauce lacked flavor. I called to Donato's explained the above to a server, she aplogized and asked my name so I could get a 9.00 credit for the next time I came in. Wont go back.....

This place is the bomb!! The service can be a little slow at times, but we always sit in the bar and there is rarely a long wait back there. Donnie and his staff always make us feel at home, like old friends! And the food is to die for!! REAL italian food, not some crappy Americanized chain food. The calamari is excellent, so are the homemade rolls. The pizza is killer! Never had a meal there that wasn't top notch!!

We absolutely love the food here. From the fresh, hot homemade rolls to the delightful canoli, this is excellent Italian food. We love the eggplant dishes, especially the Eggplant Fugetaboutit! The fresh mozzarella on the salad is a welcome touch. Pasta dishes and the marinara sauce are exceptional. But there is a consistent downside to visiting Donnato's. The service is routinely awful. The waitresses are surly, unattentive, bored, and for the most part just do not care if your experience is a good one or not. We always have to warn people that it doesn't matter what time you visit, the wait for your food may be lengthly. This problem could be offset by a better trained staff.

After reading all of these great reviews, my fiance and I were excited to try something new. We try to support the privately owned places because the chains seem to be the only thing to make it around here. Unfortunately, I can not explain how awful the service was. There were only two servers. The one server (not ours) was working her butt off picking up all the slack from our server. Both servers gave us a basket of bread. We ordered a calamari which never came. We didn't say anything because by the time we realized it wasn't coming, we thought it would come out at the same time as our food. Well, our food took forever, at least 35 minutes. My fiance got chicken parmesan, which was extremely overpriced. I got eggplant parmesan which was actually quite good. Our server finally came back over and brough us our check which we then sat there for 10 more minutes until she told us to meet her up at the register. It was a little weird to pay a $50 bill up at a counter. Overall, the experience was kind of a bust, we won't be back.

I cannot say enough good things about the food. At first glance, the prices seem a bit high, but once you receive the LOADED salad and cannoli at the end of the meal, in addition to the great main course, it is definitely worth your buck. I would have given 5 stars, except the customer service is only average.

I have been eating here since they opened! It is the best food I have eaten! I love the service everyone is so nice! I go there at least 3 times a week! I would highly recommend! Thanks everyone, only for me!!!

We have now eaten 6 or 7 times at Donato's new restaurant and I cannot recommend it highly enough. Everything from the pasta to the pizza to the subs to the soups to the salads is/are great. Just as good or even better than his former restaurant. Just great Italian home cooking. Definitely worth trying if you haven't been. Please support locally/family owned restaurants like this one instead of (or in addition to) all of the chains.

Great food! Great service! First visit when they opened was slow but we assumed it would be because of them reopeing, but oh my the food is phenomenal!!!!!! Would eat there everyday if we could but for now 2 times a week will do.

Dined 12/3/11 with my wife and two of my children. We ordered pizza, stromboli, and a calamari appetizer for all to share. Calamari was excellent as was the everything else. The only minus was the wait. No crowd but things were slow to come out of the kitchen. Not quite long enough for me to start asking questions but close. Will go back as food was great.

We came to this restaurant with high hopes based on the food and service experienced at former Donato's restaurants. However, our experience was quite disappointing. To say the kitchen was slow is an understatement. We bumped into friends who arrived about 6:00 pm and were just finishing their meal at 8:00 pm. Our meals were slow coming out of the kitchen and they were underwhelming. My wife had Veal Piccata. The veal was thin and tender but it came with an enormous pile of olives and mushrooms that took completely away from the presentation. I ordered the Veal Monte Carlo. The veal was thick and tough and instead of proscuitto, it was covered in what looked like deli ham. The sauce was very good, but not enough to overcome the entree preparation. The waitstaff was very attentive and apologic of the kitchen, but that did not overcome the disappointing meal. Overall, we had a very disappointing experience and rated this a 2 out of 5.

Hooray! Donato is back! We were so happy to see Don opened another restaurant. We used to eat at his place on Loudoun St. several times a month for years, but then he sold it. Now he has a new place and the food is as good as ever and the new place is nice. We will be eating here regularly. If you love good, homemade Italian food, pizza, and subs you can't go wrong with Donato.

Hands down THE best Italian food! We have followed the owner/chef all around Winchester. Good luck to you Don and and your family. I can't wait to see you in your new restaurant!
