Alamo Drafthouse Cinema - Vote 3 - I went to see the 11 PM showing of "Office Space". We arrived 40 minutes before the movie and had to wait in the hallway because the theater wasn't ready until about 5 minutes later. We were all given instructions from the group of servers from the front of the theater (felt like I was on a commercial flight) Our order was taken just minutes before the start of the movie. Makes me wonder why they recommend you arrive 45 min. before?I got a coke, which is $4 for a drink about the size you'd get in a restaurant, and a popcorn for $5. I have to say the popcorn is horrible. I have heard tales of great popcorn in a big stainless steel bowl, but I got what tasted like bad microwave stuff in a regular Movie theater cardboard bucket. I may have taken a bite out of the bucket, don't think I would have been able to tell the difference. The check was delivered by someone traveling the speed of light, who spoke something indistinguishable by all 3 in our party. This is my 2nd trip to Alamo, and the 2nd tub of bad popcorn. I think the main issue tonight was understaffing, but I'm not sure.If you went for the $2 Movie and nothing else it was probably great! The seats are large and very nice. If you are wondering how you can eat and watch a movie, I assure you it is very doable! I just wish they would work out some of the "kinks" as I have seen in other reviews on this site.

Alamo Drafthouse Cinema - Vote 5 - All the other theaters in Winchester are God awful. This place is truly a blessing to the area. Its clean, its comfortable, and Hey! You can eat there if you want! And drink! Amazing! Seriously, its decent food that's very expensive, you can choose not to order it, so its fair. Free popcorn with drinks on Tuesdays!

Alamo Drafthouse Cinema - Vote 4 -

Go to the other stick to your seat theaters in this town and have a nice time. You apparently like watching movies in outdated theaters located in a mall built for kids to hang around or in the old Martin's building.

I have nothing to do with Alamo, but we went there twice and enjoyed each time that I went. We are happy that they are in town.

Alamo Drafthouse Cinema - Vote 2 - Watched 2012 at the Alamo Drafthouse in Winchester on Saturday, November 14, 2009. It was a reallygreat movie with excellent special effects! We both orderedthe Alamo burger and it wasn't good. The burgers were very dry as if they had been overcooked! We had to ask for napkins since they didn't give us any. Everyone should be given napkins if they order food. It is impossible to not need napkins when you are eating food without silverware. We also had to wait in line for a good 40-50 minutes to get into the theatre. Yes, it was opening night, but there was no order to the line. 10-15 minutes before they let us in a lot of people who were in the back of the line got to the front of the line and they let them in before us. UNACCEPTABLE! A lot of improvements need to be made in order to make this an enjoyable experience!

Alamo Drafthouse Cinema - Vote 5 - Thank Goodness we finally have a theater that we can go and sit down and enjoy. I have been there 3 times since it opened and have been extremely happy each time. I think the food is priced very nice. My wife and I went and it cost $30 for our food. That is the same as any sit down establishment. I highly recommend this to anyone that has suffered through the terrible theaters in winchester. Now we don't have to drive to Martinsburg anymore!

Alamo Drafthouse Cinema - Vote 4 - They have a few kinks to work out...

We went last night for a 6:30 dinner/movie showing. I read their website to understand how the system was suppose to work. We arrived 45 minutes before the movie was to start as they suggested. In fact we were the first two people in the theatre. We were greeted by a very courteous waiter and he explained the system to us. We looked over the menu and wrote our order on the slip of paper. This is when things went the wrong direction. I will break things down into three categories, Service, Food, and the Theatre in general.

Service

Our waiter didnt have very good time management skills. He spent too much time explaining the system to people and not getting the orders entered timely. Spending 5-7 minutes doing the explanation while carrying around orders isnt a good idea in my opinion. He also didnt check back to see if the rows he was servicing had put up additional orders during the movie. We had to wait 20 minutes for him to get our order for popcorn. I will say however, not all the waiters were this way. Other folks got their food and drinks very promptly. When it came time to pay the check, it took way longer than all the other waiters for things to get processed. All of the people he served were the last to leave the theatre. He blamed a computer crash on his tardiness, but I dont understand why the other waiters didnt have an issue?

Food

The food was actually quite good! The menu had a nice variety and being able to go to a theatre and have something besides just popcorn, candy and a soft drink is a great thing! We had the pulled pork quesadilla and the BBQ chicken pizza. The quesadilla was excellent. The portion size was a good bang for the buck. The BBQ was very good, but for our taste, it had a bit too much BBQ sauce. If I order it again, I will ask them to use less sauce. My wife enjoyed the Sangria as well. We also had a BIG bowl of popcorn that was very good and for $5, I think it was a good value. I look forward to coming back to explore the menu even further.

Theatre in General

The stadium seating is so comfortable to watch a movie. Those seats will make me want to go to the theatre more often even if I dont order an entire meal. With the prices being nearly the same as the other theatres in town they will get my business every time. We didnt take our 4 year old boy on this trip but I did notice for smaller children you may want to sit down front so they will not have a problem seeing over the table.

My rating reason: I am giving them 4 stars because it is a new establishment and I understand things happen. I hope they do better next time in the service department.

Alamo Drafthouse Cinema - Vote 4 - I attended one of the preview nights the weekend before the cinema "officially" opened. I had been anxiously awaiting the opening of this theater. I went with my 10 year old cousin I was babysitting, and we were not disappointed! The seats are comfortable and it is such a refreshing change to be in a clean, well-cared for theater (unlike the others in town!).

Placing your order is easy; all you have to do is write down what you want on the white paper, fold it and slip it in the edge of the counter. When a server sees it, they take your order to the kitchen. As soon as it's ready, someone will bring it out to you. You have to do this; they won't come and "check on you" during the movie otherwise.

I thought that the food was good and was not too expensive. The prices are comparable to going out to eat a Chili's or Applebee's, I think. I like the variety they have; salads, wraps, burgers, pizza, quesadillas, etc. The desserts were yummy, too! At least the cheesecake and chocolate cake were. I can't wait to go there again!

Alamo Drafthouse Cinema - Vote 4 - I heard mixed reviews about the Alamo Drafthouse and decided to inspect it myself. The first thing you see when you walk in is the bar and I was impressed with 15+ taps they had. I grabbed a pint and headed toward a seat in the theater and it is one of the best in Winchester. It was immaculate, and the staff explained how to order the menu items. The only complaint I had was that the waitress was explaining this DURING the movie, and that they don't check tickets till you sit in the movie. They do have tickets discounts (senior, student, and military) after 6 pm ($7 vs. $9). If they sold the "growlers" refills at a discounted price I might be tempted to purchase one, but this place is pricey as far as anything related to food or drink.

Alamo Drafthouse Cinema - Vote 4 - We went there the other night with some friends. We had a few drinks and then had wings with out movie. The place was very very cool. I am sooo excited that it finally opened. Our server was very sweet and attentive. She took very good care of all of us. The theater, service, and movie were awesome. I thought they would have a few more impressive beers but I will go back again and again. Thanks Alamo!!!

Alamo Drafthouse Cinema - Vote 3 - We've looked forward to the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema's opening for the entire time that is has been planned/built. We've passed it daily and were very anxious to give it a try!

We did so -- last night.

Management was in attendance. The lobby/bar area is lovely.

We arrived about an hour before the show and sat in the bar area for a while, then went into the theatre. We hadn't eaten so were looking forward to getting served before the film.

It didn't happen.

The menu is extensive and the food prices are high.

The before-the-movie 'entertainment' was a series of blurry and jumpy old movie clips. They were bad enough to give me a headache, especially since no one came to take our food order.

Once someone FINALLY came to take our order, it was almost time for the film to begin. Our food didn't arrive until the actual movie had begun and the lights were off. It is very hard to eat when you can barely see what you've ordered. The food, itself, was 'ok', but not worth the $$, in my opinion. A server only came by one time, and cleared our plates at that time. She did return late to give 'last call' and brought the check.

I realize that the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema is brand new and the staff is not fully trained, but I've got to tell you that I was disappointed!

We'll go to see a film there again -- but won't order food again -- and we'll wait a month or so to let them get the kinks out before returning.
